Recently we partnered with Valley Youth House in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, to support their mission of ministering to underprivileged youth. Valley Youth House seeks to be “the catalyst for youth to achieve their desired future through genuine relationships that support families, ensure safe places, and build community connections.”
ViewThrough the Books in Homes USA program and Watson Land Company’s sponsorship this year, Catskill and Dominguez schools received 3,724 brand-new books. Elementary school-age children get to choose among hundreds of titles to own as part of their own personal library—at no cost to them. Watson Land Company team members love to engage children at Books in Homes USA events as they flip through the book’s crisp pages and delight in their colorful pictures. Their smiles warm our hearts—a gentle reminder that any small act can have a significant impact. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to not only financially support Books in Homes USA’s very worthwhile program and to shake hands with the quiet heroes behind this life-changing organization.
ViewIn times of change, we believe at Watson that we must rise to the occasion with resourcefulness and empathy—and this year, that meant volunteering virtually. Since 2005, employees of Watson Land Company united with Operation Teddy Bear for their annual event at Dominguez Elementary School. A literacy program that gives back to school children, Operation Teddy Bear donates backpacks packed with school supplies and a teddy bear to a huge list of disadvantaged first graders who attend schools throughout Los Angeles County.
ViewThis month, Watson Land Company is celebrating its continued support as a Platinum sponsor for the Presidential Scholars Program at California State University, Dominguez Hills. A prominent scholarship known throughout the area, this program acknowledges local high school and community college students for their exceptional academic accomplishments and community involvement. It gives us great pride to support students from our community to have access to amazing opportunities in furthering their education and fulfilling their potential.
ViewWatson Land Company is thrilled to extend a warm welcome to three new customers in our community: Floor & Décor, Logistics Plus, and CTSI Logistics, Inc. These companies join the growing WLC network and will strengthen Watson Land Company as well as continue to build and support the communities in the areas where we live and work. At Watson Land Company, we are committed to building community, generous planned giving, and volunteerism, as it is sewn into the seams of all we do, and we are honored to have Floor & Décor, Logistics Plus, and CTSI Logistics, Inc. join us in these endeavors.
ViewGiving back to communities in need. Feeding those less fortunate who are hungry. Supporting nonprofits that make a difference in our neighborhoods. The future is bright when our customers, in alignment with Watson Land Company’s legacy of giving, also believe in contributing to our dynamic communities.
That’s why we are thrilled to highlight customers like Behr Paint Company. With the unique contributions of partners like Behr, our vision is exemplified in the local communities where we live and work.
Stories of WLC customers stepping-up set a clear example of companies throughout the area using their resources to donate to those in need. And one of the largest areas of need is providing essential personal protective equipment (PPE) to healthcare workers on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s the number one issue for healthcare organizations at this time as hospitals worry that they will continue to face a shortage of masks, gloves, and gowns that doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers need to protect themselves from infection from the highly contagious virus.
ViewThe support we give to our communities defines the foundation of our corporate values. This deep tradition of philanthropy has been in place since our company’s founding, with a focus on contributing in palpable, significant ways: from giving to youth programs to families in crisis to senior services to workforce development and literacy programs, to public safety, and to enhance the quality of life.
ViewWe are pleased to announce that Watson Land Company’s Dominguez Technology Center has received an Award of Excellence during the WateReuse virtual conference that was held virtually in June 2020. Located in Carson, California, the business park partnered on a project with West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) and other neighboring organizations in an effort to use recycled water for its landscape irrigation system.
ViewWe are pleased to recognize the 2020 Watson Land Company College Scholarship recipients: a selection of students who are pursuing their studies at institutions of higher education. WLC’s scholarship program was established in 1982 to provide financial assistance to qualified, promising young adults who live in the areas where we have a business presence. Since the scholarship program was established, Watson has awarded 38 scholarships to more than one hundred deserving future leaders of our communities. We are proud to honor these extraordinary individuals, as well as help to make a positive impact in the neighborhoods they reside in.
ViewAs the pandemic evolves, we at Watson Land Company are witnessing customers take measured approaches to safeguard employees and contribute to COVID-19 relief efforts. One such Watson customer is Alcoa. A major producer of Bauxite, Alumina and Aluminum products, Alcoa maintains locations around the world, from Europe and Australia to Saudi Arabia and the United States. And with core values including “Act with integrity. Operate with excellence. Care for people,” Alcoa aligns beautifully with Watson’s mindset as a corporation.
ViewOur nation has been faced with an unprecedented hardship as we contend with the coronavirus pandemic. However, despite the quick adaptions to mandates and the ever-evolving changes, Watson’s logistics customers continue to ship products such as food, medical supplies, and other life-sustaining materials. We owe corporations such as C.H. Robinson, Geodis, and Atalanta Corporation our gratitude.
As shipping and transportation companies struggle to manage the pandemic’s growing impact on their supply chains, these three Watson customers are implementing sourcing strategies and risk management to combat the challenges so consumers can still get the goods they need for daily life.
At Watson, we’re excited to announce how many of our customers have stepped up as well as modified their business models and production facilities to address medical supplies shortages due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They’re adapting to help their communities during this challenging time, and it’s a testament to the tenacity and grit these companies possess in times of crisis.
Watson gives a round of applause to corporations such as BNSF Railway, Agility, and DB Schenker. As the coronavirus continues to disrupt life as usual, it’s good to know that these businesses are working hard to make a positive impact.
