Watson Land Company Employees Volunteer at Sharefest’s 9th Annual Workday

Sharefest’s 9th Annual WorkdayThe employees of Watson Land Company, with their families and business partners, joined Carson students, their families, and community volunteers at Carson High School for Sharefest’s 9th Annual Workday, where major campus beautification projects were accomplished. Watson Land Company was proud to sponsor the volunteer event, which drew more than 500 people.

Bruce Choate, Watson’s President and CEO, joined elected officials, school district representatives, the Sharefest Executive Director, and Carson High School Principal in giving brief remarks at the culmination ceremony. He said, “When good people and companies with good values get together, good things happen.” This was evident throughout the day when community volunteers and business volunteers worked side by side to improve the local school.

Sharefest’s 9th Annual WorkdayAmong the projects tackled that day, Watson volunteers were instrumental in replanting numerous planters, mulching existing vegetation, and weeding landscape throughout campus. This would not have been possible were it not for the co-sponsorship and participation of O’Connell Landscape Services (Watson’s landscape contractor). The project was run by Joe Poindexter, who just happens to be a Carson High School alumnus, and his hardworking team.

The Watson team also installed 18 benches throughout the quad, alongside Watson business partner Norm Wilson & Sons. When the Norm Wilson team learned there was a need to replace benches throughout the quad they came up with a solution and design that school leaders loved. They worked with other Watson business partners to get parts and paint, fabricated them off-site, and worked with Watson employee volunteers to install them. By the culmination ceremony, students and community volunteers had a beautiful new place to enjoy their lunches and listen to the speakers.

Sharefest’s 9th Annual WorkdayG-Brothers Construction, another generous Watson partner, built an outdoor kitchen in the school’s garden area. Used primarily by the science program, the outdoor prep kitchen will be used to teach students about gardening, farming, and living off the land. G-Brothers not only donated their time, but the materials, as well.

Other business partners who helped make this event possible were Patten Construction Services, Lindsey Lumber, Continental Painting, and Sanders and Wohrman Paint.

Watson customers GMB North America and Quik Pick Express also participated by donating their resources; GMB made a contribution and sent employees to volunteer while Quik Pick Express donated 20 cases of water for volunteers to enjoy.

Chad Mayer, Co-founder and Executive Director of Sharefest Community Development said, “I am sure that you witnessed first-hand what ‘strength in numbers’ can mean when a vision is clear and all focus is on serving students and the greater community. Your partnership with us, in giving back to the Carson Community is an experience we truly cherish. The Carson High School project was quite the undertaking in a day’s time but was done seamlessly. I know that the end product created a new sense of community pride that will be enjoyed by generations. “
