Watson Land Company Presents
$100,000 gift to Carson Libraries

Carson, CA (Feb. 2) --- Watson Land Company, a Carson-based developer, owner and manager of industrial properties throughout Southern California, recently presented a $100,000 grant to the Carson Regional Library and Los Angeles County Library Foundation to support programs at Carson libraries. The gift was presented on the occasion of the company’s 100th Anniversary.

The grant, awarded over five years, will be used to complete a Teen Center at the Martin Luther King branch library, and to strengthen the very popular Homework Help Program available at the Carson Library for students throughout the South Bay.

“This is just an incredible gift,” said Library Manager Leticia Tan. “The library serves thousands of patrons each year, and the Homework Help Program is in great demand. This grant will make it possible to maintain a valuable service to our youth and community.”

Watson Land Company has been a committed supporter of the library for many years. The company's year-long centennial celebration, themed "A Century of Stewardship", will be marked by a substantial long term financial commitment to key community programs and services, noted Bruce Choate, President and CEO of Watson.

“Watson was founded here in Carson, and the company has grown in tandem with the community. Our roots are deep here, and we feel a commensurate commitment to support the future of this community by helping young people prepare for success.” Given recent budget cutbacks that have affected library hours and services, news of the grant has been well received.

“Watson has a long history of generosity in the communities where it operates,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, who represents the Carson area. “This year, we are particularly gratified by a gift of this size that will keep a vital program open to young people.”
