Established from California's first Spanish land grant

Watson Land Company is deeply rooted in the history of California's and its first, large Spanish land grant, the Rancho San Pedro. The King of Spain gave the area, comprising about 75,000 acres in what is today southern Los Angeles County, to Juan Jose Dominguez for his long and faithful service as a soldier in the Spanish Colonial Army.

The present day company originated from the land holdings of the Dominguez family descendants. Out of the holdings of Maria Dolores Dominguez, who married James Alexander Watson in 1855, grew the beginnings of what is today Watson Land Company. First incorporated as Watson Estate Company in 1912, the company was renamed Watson Land Company in 1927.

Until the early 1960's the land held by the company was used for agriculture and oil production. In 1963, Watson Land Company, in order to protect and enhance the value of its holdings, began land development activities in response to the changing needs of business and industry in Southern California.

Tribute to retired Chairman William T. Huston's vision and legacy

William T. Huston's valued service to Watson Land Company (1963 - 2003) and his many community contributions, began as a vision and lives on as a legacy. The 1960's were the beginning of his vision to transition Watson Land Company's assets from undeveloped land holdings into master planned commercial real estate. Concepts and plans were constructed as Huston began to translate his vision into reality. Developments began to evolve over time as design and feature enhancements set his vision apart from the competition. The quality and functional design of our company's developments are a testament to Bill Huston's vision and have become the hallmark for excellence. Exceptional buildings with exceptional values established Watson Land Company as one of the premier developers in the country. The vision becomes reality and the legacy lives on.

By taking us from agriculture and oil fields to one of the largest industrial developers in the nation, Bill Huston's leadership and vision has left an indelible impact on the southern California real estate landscape. With a strong commitment to history, family, community, ethics and education, he has created a lasting legacy for our shareholders, customers and employees.

We salute and thank Bill Huston for his legacy of leadership.
